Harrisburg, PA — McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC revealed today a new logo and celebration plans for its 75th anniversary. Established in 1935, the firm has long played a major role in the legal and community life of Harrisburg and central Pennsylvania. In 2010, McNees is dedicating its 75th anniversary year to activities that will profoundly and positively impact the community for years to come.
Beginning January 2010, McNees attorneys and staff will embark on monthly charitable and civic activities to mark the firm's continuing contribution to the communities in which it operates. Each month throughout the year, the firm’s more than 240 personnel will select one designated organization and then will perform a service project for that organization. Some projects will focus on financial support, while many will require active participation.
“We wanted to celebrate this milestone in a meaningful way, and since our community helped to shape the history of the firm, our 75th anniversary seemed like the appropriate time to give back in a significant way,” said David Kleppinger, Chairman of the firm.
For its January initiative, the firm has committed to a year-long effort of having at least 75 attorneys and 75 legal support personnel take on a pro bono project. There are many organizations in need of pro bono help and attorneys and staff will have opportunities to assist such organizations as the Dauphin County Bar Association, the YWCA Domestic Violence Legal Clinic, and the Federal courts' pro bono programs, just to name a few. The opportunities also extend to the five communities in which the firm has regional offices: Lancaster, PA; State College, PA; Hazleton, PA; Columbus, OH; and Washington, DC.
The following is a list of other organizations and activities that the firm is planning to assist in the coming months:
Dress for Success
Habitat for Humanity
Boy Scouts / Girl Scouts
Water Street Ministries
American Diabetes Association, Tour de Cure
Christmas in July (military support)
Friends of Wildwood Lake
"Anniversaries are not only an opportunity to celebrate the past, but are also an especially important occasion to look to the future. These communities helped to sustain us through the last 75 years and will fuel our success for the next 75," said Mr. Kleppinger.
